Job Overview

AECOM Western Canada is actively seeking a Senior Engineer for Transportation Communication Systems to enhance our multidisciplinary Systems Engineering team. This role focuses on delivering both current and future projects within the transportation sector.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design comprehensive communication sub-systems tailored for transportation applications, including fibre optic networks, radio communication systems, integrated communication solutions, passenger information systems, telephony, CCTV, and security systems.
  • Create essential design documentation such as block diagrams, network layouts, equipment configurations, cable schedules, and bill of materials.
  • Compile design reports throughout all phases of the project lifecycle.
  • Develop testing protocols and documentation to ensure design verification and validation.
  • Prepare construction-ready drawings and documentation packages.
  • Engage in the implementation phase of projects, overseeing installation, testing, commissioning, and final reporting.
  • Assist in procurement by drafting technical specifications, evaluating vendor bids, and aiding in vendor selection.
  • Oversee and coordinate with system vendors until project completion.
  • Collaborate with various technical disciplines including electrical, mechanical, and civil engineering to ensure cohesive system integration.
  • Manage system interfaces and develop Interface Control Documents (ICDs).
  • Lead technical discussions with clients and key stakeholders.
  • Provide training and support to client personnel.
  • Contribute to project planning and requirements management.
  • Assist in cost estimation, scheduling, and budgeting efforts.
  • Review designs created by team members for quality assurance.
  • Participate in project pursuit initiatives.
  • Mentor junior staff to foster professional development.

Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in system design for rail and transit projects.
  • Professional Engineer designation.
  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 8 or more years of experience in rail and transit systems.
  • Familiarity with transit systems in Western Canada is preferred; experience in Eastern Canada is a plus.
  • Experience in an Owner's Engineer capacity.
  • Proficiency in designing IP backbone networks, integrated communication systems, and safety systems.
  • Experience in testing, commissioning, and operations management.
  • Knowledge of relevant codes and standards for rail projects.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary project environment.
  • Self-driven with minimal supervision required.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.
