About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Area Construction Manager to join our team at McDonald's. As a key member of our Restaurant Development department, you will be responsible for overseeing the construction of new sites throughout Ontario, from pre-construction coordination to project closeout.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical expertise and support during site due diligence, partnering with our Real Estate team to investigate sites and establish preliminary project budgets.
  • Monitor design development and establish project costs for new sites with McDonald's real estate partners.
  • Oversee site and building design processes with internal and external consultant teams to ensure compliance, quality, constructability, and scheduled deliverables.
  • Administer contracts, including project tender processes, negotiations, award, and construction administration to general contractors and national vendors.
  • Manage project performance, asset management deliverables, and overall project schedule.
  • Accountable for project costs and reporting requirements.
  • Manage project commissioning, closeout, and Owner/Operator handover procedures.
  • Identify and manage ongoing challenges, risks, and value engineering opportunities within the project scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Organize, attend, and minute construction meetings, site visits, and deliverables with general contractors, vendors, internal, and external stakeholders.
  • Liaise with municipal bodies, Authority Having Jurisdiction, utility companies, franchisees, and other internal and external partners as required for project success.
  • Cultivate and promote positive working relationships with internal and external team members.
  • Prepare, maintain, and issue ongoing regular project reports and updates.
Requirements
  • 5 to 8 years of progressive experience as a construction project manager, with experience in land development, landlord or tenant representation, and retail or Quick-Service Restaurant (QSR) construction industry experience considered an asset.
  • Excellent written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively build strong partnerships with management, staff, and external partners.
  • Strong organization and multi-tasking skills, with the ability to make critical decisions to drive project success.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications, including MS Project, MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and Smart Sheets and Oracle Platforms considered an asset.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, adapt to changing priorities, and travel within Canada up to 30% of the year.
