ABOUT THIS CAREER OPPORTUNITY

The Southwest Ontario division of Black & McDonald is expanding. We are seeking a dedicated and collaborative professional to enhance our innovative team.

The Accounting Manager position is pivotal in supporting the Regional Controller to implement the financial strategy in alignment with Corporate Policy. This role will cater to the Southwest Ontario (SWO) Region, including joint ventures and National Service functions.

Regional Responsibilities

  • Execute general ledger journal entries, including Month-End and Year-End processes.
  • Verify the accuracy of coding on invoices and expense reports.
  • Generate financial reports for Operations.
  • Compile weekly reports for the Service Division Manager, incorporating Safety & Training Statistics.
  • Assist in the preparation of annual and quarterly budget and forecast templates.
  • Manage tax and government remittances.
  • Oversee monthly account and bank reconciliations.
  • Support general ledger accountability, overhead and recoveries monitoring, expense review, cost control, month-end procedures, and audit readiness, including WSIB remittances & audits.
  • Assist the Regional Controller with fleet management and accounts receivable tasks.
  • Conduct monthly variance analysis (i.e., actual vs. budget).
  • Collaborate with administrators & coordinators to ensure work orders and purchase orders are processed in accordance with company policies.
  • Review hourly payroll processed by the Payroll Administrator.
  • Process Salary Payroll for the Region, including T4 and T2200 Distribution.
  • Manage banking activities, including processing EFTs and banking files.
  • Support the Controller and Division Managers with ad hoc requests.
  • Mentor and guide Administrators.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Joint Venture Responsibilities

  • Oversee month-end accounting procedures, including preparing the initial draft of financial statements for Regional Controller review.
  • Manage all financial aspects of Joint Ventures, including billing, Accounts Payable, and Accounts Receivable duties.
  • Conduct monthly variance analysis (i.e., actual vs. budget).
  • Prepare and maintain reconciliation files and working papers to support the annual review engagement by external auditors and US Partners.

National Service Operations

  • Generate National Service & National Account reports on a monthly and quarterly basis as required.
  • Assist in standardizing month-end Service and Best Practice (BPS) procedures.
  • Support the National Service Controller in developing National Administrative Training.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • A degree in Accounting or Finance from a recognized University, with progress towards an accounting designation.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with an Accounting Designation.

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in a similar capacity.

SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Intermediate knowledge and understanding of:

  • Strong analytical capabilities.
  • Comprehensive understanding of full cycle accounting.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and perform well under pressure.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficient technical skills in Excel and Word.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Experience with ERP systems (JD Edwards experience is a plus).
  • Experience in the construction sector is advantageous.
