Job Summary:

The Kativik Regional Government is seeking a highly motivated and dynamic individual to fill the position of Environmental Specialist in Kuujjuaq. This is a permanent, full-time position that will play a key role in the development and implementation of environmental programs and policies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical assistance and expertise on environmental matters to the Kativik Regional Government and Northern Villages;
  • Implement the Waste Management Plan in collaboration with the Northern Villages and other stakeholders;
  • Provide technical assistance to the Northern Villages for the implementation of new waste management methods and practices, including the preparation of information and education activities, and the organization of training sessions for municipal employees;
  • Conduct environmental inspections in the Northern Villages and region;
  • Collaborate with the Ministry of Environment on environmental matters;
  • Assist the Kativik Regional Government or Northern Villages in obtaining permits under the Environmental Quality Act;
  • Assist environmental technicians in the performance of their duties;
  • Perform any other necessary tasks.

Qualifications:

  • University degree in Environmental Studies or a related field (a Master's degree in Environmental Studies or a related field would be considered an asset);
  • At least two years of experience in waste management;
  • Excellent organizational skills;
  • Good communication skills, both written and oral;
  • Ability to work effectively under limited supervision;
  • Excellent teamwork and relationship management skills;
  • Good understanding of Indigenous issues and the North in general would be considered an asset;
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing in at least two of the following languages: Inuktitut, English, and French;
  • Practical knowledge of computer software (Microsoft Office 2010);
  • Ability to travel frequently throughout Nunavik.

Work Location: Kuujjuaq, Quebec

Salary: Min: $58,466/year, Max: $100,085/year (Class 9)

  • Food allowance: minimum of $3,707/year;
  • Annual vacation travel: maximum of three trips per person per year;
  • Simplified pension plan: 6% employer contributions, 4% employee contributions;

  • Holidays: 19 days, including 10 during the Christmas holidays.
