Job Title: Piping Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Piping Engineer to join our team. As a Piping Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and developing piping systems for various energy industry projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop process designs for energy industry projects from inception to completion
  • Provide comprehensive engineering and design services, including establishing design criteria and preparing specifications, design computations, drawings, models, and bills of material
  • Participate in the design of component parts and individual units
  • Exercise cost/budget control and review designs for conformance with control estimates and project specifications
  • Review and maintain project schedules and track engineering tasks and deliverables
  • Participate in design reviews and HAZOPs
  • Provide technical guidance to junior staff
  • Review vendor or subcontractor quotations, drawings, and specifications for technical adequacy and conformance with project requirements
  • Apply engineering techniques and analyses to solve engineering tasks
  • Adhere to Vista Quality Management System (QMS)
  • Ensure design is in accordance with applicable codes and requirements, including Vista and client specifications and standards
  • Review the work of others
  • Actively steward change management related to their scopes of work
  • Prepare or assist in the preparation of discipline inputs for cost estimates for proposals
  • Authenticate documentation with a professional engineering stamp as required
  • Review existing line class specifications
  • Define piping line classes (flange ratings)
  • Complete piping data in the line list
  • Prepare engineering work packages
  • Prepare and review manual valve and piping specialty item lists
  • Prepare and review valve and specialty items datasheets
  • Prepare and review tie-in lists
  • Check piping isometric materials
  • Perform maximum allowable flange rating and wall thickness calculations
  • Prepare and review material requisitions and technical bid evaluations
  • Prepare and review material take-offs (MTO) for piping, valves, fittings, and specialty items or check MTOs if created from the 3D model
  • Prepare and review commodity purchase specifications (pipe, fittings, etc.)
  • Provide input to P&ID for manual valve and specialty item tagging
  • Perform other duties as requested
Requirements:
  • Four (4) to eight (8) years of progressive experience in facilities engineering and design in the energy industry
  • Bachelor's degree (B.Sc.) in Mechanical Engineering is preferred but Metallurgical and Process Engineering will be considered
  • P.Eng. registration with APEGA
  • Ability to work and collaborate within a multi-disciplinary team including Process, Mechanical, Civil, Structural & Architectural, Electrical, Instrumentation & Controls, and Piping Engineers and Designers as well as Project Management and Procurement personnel
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills, technical competence, and attention to detail
  • Self-motivated and efficient with time management
  • Familiarity of applicable codes and industry standards
  • Ability to meet safety requirements to attend site visits
Preferred:
  • Two to four years of experience as a professional engineer, ideally with experience in the energy industry
