Job Description

GFL Environmental is seeking a highly skilled Financial Operations Analyst to join our team. As a key member of our finance department, you will play a critical role in supporting business decision-making, operational efficiencies, and financial reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Consolidate and analyze operational and financial data from assigned business units to inform reporting and strategic decision-making.

  • Partner with cross-functional teams to provide operational data and insights to support financial reporting and business planning.

  • Collaborate with IT and Operations teams to ensure effective implementation and operation of IT tools and applications to support data gathering and financial reporting.

  • Develop and maintain performance metrics to identify trends, outliers, and insights related to revenue, volume, pricing, and margin analysis, as well as operational and safety performance.

  • Support a range of projects across sales, operations, fleet, and facility management, including data analysis, process improvement, and change management.

  • Champion system and process changes within the region, providing training and support to ensure successful adoption and implementation.

  • Conduct detailed analysis and investigations to identify root causes and provide recommendations for improvement.

  • Assist the Director with cost control, cost reviews, and approvals, as well as forecasting and budgeting.

  • Prepare Authorization for Expenditure (AFE) documents for capital projects.

  • Provide operational support to the team as needed, including data analysis, reporting, and process improvement.

Requirements:

  • 2-4 years of experience in operations and/or financial analysis, preferably in a business intelligence or financial planning role.

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business.

  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, and experience with SQL, IBM Cognos/TM1, or similar business intelligence tools.

  • Strong attention to detail, ability to work under pressure, and excellent communication skills.

  • Team player with a strong business acumen and ability to build trusted relationships with business leaders.

  • Ability to communicate complex findings and recommendations concisely.

  • Experience interacting with senior management teams, preparing management-level presentations, and participating in the presentation of results and strategic priorities.

  • Occasional travel within Ontario and overtime may be required.
