Geo-Environmental Field Technician

We are committed to protecting the environment and are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Environmental Field Technician Graduate to join our team in Ottawa.
About the Role:
- Conduct geotechnical, hydrogeological, and environmental field investigations, including drilling and sampling.
- Coordinate and review utility locates and drawings.
- Interpret engineering plans and reports, and layout locations in the field.
- Log soil and rock samples.
- Perform surveying tasks.
- Collect soil samples for environmental and geotechnical testing.
- May be involved in well development, groundwater sampling, soil gas sampling, and/or single well response testing and construction/remediation activities.
- Liaise with subcontractors, client representatives, and agencies as required.
- Train staff in field methods and sampling techniques.
- Support other team members with field, laboratory, and office activities as needed.
- Complete accurate and clear field notes.
- Prepare data tables, stratigraphic logs, scopes of work, and health and safety plans.
- Adhere to GHD and client safety requirements, including PPE.
- Travel may be required, with projects primarily located in the GTA/Greater Golden Horseshoe area and occasional travel to Northern and Eastern Ontario (25%).
- Estimated 95% of time spent outside the office in the field.
Requirements:
- 3-5 years of relevant experience.
- College diploma in Earth Science, Environmental, or Civil Engineering Technology/Technician program.
- Working knowledge of geotechnical, hydrogeology field testing, and bedrock drilling/logging.
- General experience with MS Office software, including Excel, Word, and Teams.
- Working knowledge of MECP, MNRF, MOL, and Acts & Regulations associated with the type of work being performed.
- Working knowledge of Ontario Regulations 903, 347, 558/00, 153/04, 213/91, and 406/19.
- Experience as a MOL Supervisor for larger drilling programs.
- Valid First Aid/AED Training certification.
- Must own a reliable vehicle and hold a valid driver's license.
- Adaptable and analytical, with a willingness to ask questions.
- Ability to exercise sound professional judgment.
- Self-motivated and able to manage multiple tasks.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Team player, cooperative with other staff.
- Ability to meet challenging deadlines.
- Working in highly congested utility situations and with linear infrastructure projects considered an asset.
- Previous experience working on larger infrastructure projects and Northern Ontario experience an asset.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with clear, well-written notes.
