Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated individual to fill the role of Teacher Assistant II at Grande Yellowhead Public School Division No. 77. This position requires a strong ability to provide support to students with special needs, including those with physical and/or mental challenges, learning disabilities, and social, emotional, and behavioral problems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide assistance in the classroom and perform student support duties to special needs students.
  • Act as an integral part of the IEP team, providing support to the student on identified objectives.
  • Act as a liaison between students and professionals, providing information to relevant staff regarding student specific program needs and progress.
  • Accompany students on outings within the community and transport students as required.
  • Administer necessary medications in accordance with GYPSD policy.
  • Assist and/or provide personal and physical care as required.
  • Employ physical restraint if safety concerns exist.
  • Maintain up-to-date anecdotal records of student's behavior and program progress.
  • Provide direct educational support to students in various classroom and other school-related activities.
  • Use computers and other specialized equipment to provide support.
  • Monitor students' daily arrival, dismissal, class changes, and lunchroom/playground activities.
  • Monitor class and/or students when the teacher is temporarily out of the room.
  • Report safety and discipline concerns to the teacher and/or Principal.
  • Support students in the development of life-long learning, self-esteem, personal skills, and interests.
  • Assist with the behavioral management of students.
  • Perform other assigned duties that are within the area of knowledge and skills required by the job description.
Requirements
  • Completion of grade 12 diploma or equivalent.
  • May require a valid Class 5 Driver's license.
  • Technology and computer-related skills.
  • May require specialized training and/or experience dependent on students.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and as a team player.
  • Physical ability to perform the required duties.
  • Ability to speak French is considered an asset.
