Department Information

The Practical Nurse and Health Care Aide Department provides comprehensive training through its Practical Nurse Program and Health Care Aide Program. Located within a modern Health Education Centre, our students benefit from intimate class sizes and exceptional personalized instruction, ensuring an enriching learning experience for both local and international students.

Position Summary

We are currently seeking a Clinical Instructor for the Health Care Aide Program. This role is focused on clinical instruction and encompasses courses HC1050 and HC1080.

Course Details

  • HC1050: Monday to Friday, 8-hour shifts.
  • HC1080: Three days a week, 12-hour shifts.

Qualifications

Applicants must hold a valid nursing license in Alberta and be in good standing with their regulatory body, with no restrictions on their practice. Eligible candidates include registered nurses (RN), registered psychiatric nurses (RPN), nurse practitioners (NP), and licensed practical nurses (LPN). A minimum of one year of full-time equivalent clinical nursing or nursing education experience in Canada within the last three years is required. Additional experience is advantageous.

Successful candidates will demonstrate a positive attitude towards education, possess excellent communication skills, and work effectively with students. The ability to work independently and collaboratively with colleagues is essential, along with a self-motivated and proactive approach. Candidates should be capable of providing guidance, creatively addressing challenges, and aligning with the goals of nursing education. Proficiency in computer applications, including word processing and email, is preferred.

Prior experience in teaching or supervising students, as well as familiarity with student-centered learning methodologies, is desirable. Knowledge of adult education can be evidenced through one of the following:

  • One year of adult teaching experience;
  • A degree in education;
  • Completion of an adult teaching/learning program.

Applicants who do not meet the above criteria may still be considered, with the opportunity to complete Northwestern Polytechnic's adult teaching/learning program upon hiring. Final candidates will undergo a security screening.
