Building Management Systems Technician

Position Overview: The Building Management Systems Technician will play a crucial role in the installation and troubleshooting of advanced control systems related to HVAC, VFDs, lighting, and various electrical components.

Qualifications: Candidates with proven experience in HVAC controls or electrical systems, particularly in large retail environments, will be prioritized.

Work Schedule: This position involves a deployment schedule of three weeks on-site followed by one week at home. Travel will be conducted using a company vehicle, which will be provided to Lead Installation Technicians. A daily per diem will be allocated to all technicians.

Reporting Structure: Reports directly to the Field Operations Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install Automatic Temperature Control Systems.
  • Conduct testing and verification of system readings to ensure optimal performance.
  • Perform system checkouts and assist in the startup process.
  • Complete and submit electronic reports detailing all aspects of assignments and activities.
  • Provide technical support and training as needed.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Exhibit strong organizational skills.
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Collaborate effectively as a team player, meeting both internal and external expectations.

Required Skills & Education:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as an electrician or in low voltage control work, particularly in commercial or retail settings.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Proficient in using a laptop or PC.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with computerized electrical circuits and HVAC control systems.
  • Familiarity with AC/DC circuits, lighting contactors, and relays.
  • Knowledge of BACnet and MODBUS protocols.
  • Experience with Tridium Niagara AX.
  • Understanding of pneumatic controls.
  • Strong background in air and hydronic systems, including chillers and boiler operations.
  • Extensive knowledge of Building Management Systems.

Physical Requirements: The role requires spending significant time in mechanical and electrical rooms, which may involve working in hazardous or confined spaces. The technician must be capable of:

  • Drilling.
  • Stooping.
  • Climbing ladders.
  • Kneeling.
  • Pushing and pulling.
  • Standing for extended periods.
  • Reaching.
  • Lifting and carrying heavy items.
  • Adapting to temperature variations.
