Key Responsibilities

In the role of Explosives Technician, you will be tasked with executing surface production blasting operations while adhering to both Dyno Nobel's and regulatory standards at our mining site. Your primary responsibilities will include conducting blasting operations with a focus on safety and efficiency, working in close collaboration with the Mine Operations team to ensure optimal operational safety. You will also be expected to convey technical insights to operational staff to guarantee compliance with internal standards and promote continuous improvement. Additional duties will encompass:

  • Carrying out designated blasting tasks
  • Serving as a job site blaster under the supervision of the Site Operations Manager and/or Mine Drill & Blast Superintendent
  • Providing insights on blast-related activities to assist in the planning process
  • Identifying and addressing blast site challenges in coordination with the Site Operations Manager and/or Mine Drill & Blast Superintendent, as necessary
  • Verifying the completion of pre-blast inspections prior to initiating blasts
  • Complying with all Company safety protocols and procedures
  • Monitoring the relationship between blast patterns and excavation types, reporting findings to the Site Operations Manager or Mine Drill & Blast Superintendent
  • Documenting explosive usage and maintaining necessary inventory records
  • Completing field accounting reports and trip manifest forms as required
  • Performing any other assigned responsibilities

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5 years' experience as a blaster with a valid blasting license
  • Expertise in electronic and non-electric blasting systems
  • Familiarity with bulk emulsions, particularly gassed products
  • Knowledge of safety systems for pumping bulk products
  • Experience in development blasting applications
  • Proficiency in drilling operations
  • Understanding of blast design, safety protocols, and drilling operation standards
  • Familiarity with mine drilling and blasting techniques, production methods, equipment, safety protocols, and environmental regulations
  • Capability to drive a pick-up truck regularly
  • Proficiency in utilizing computerized equipment and technology
  • Ability to excel in a high-pressure, deadline-driven environment requiring the management of complex technical information and decision-making
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • A positive attitude, friendly demeanor, and a collaborative spirit
