Pediatric Psychiatric Liaison Nurse Specialist

Job Summary:
The Pediatric Psychiatric Liaison Nurse plays a vital role in providing person-centered and recovery-oriented care to pediatric patients with psychiatric and concurrent disorders. Working collaboratively with the interprofessional care team, this position performs intake assessments, offers crisis intervention, and provides input into the care of pediatric psychiatric patients in the Emergency Departments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Screen psychiatric referrals from internal and external sources, gather background information, and determine service priorities.
- Work with Emergency Department/inpatient unit staff to identify potential psychiatric referrals and perform psychosocial assessments.
- Develop care plans with final dispositions authorized by the Emergency Room Physician or consulting psychiatrist.
- Provide general and crisis counseling to patients and their families, including short-term crisis follow-up in accordance with approved treatment plans.
- Communicate and consult with Coordinators and other members of the interprofessional mental health and substance use team on patient care issues, resources, and discharge planning.
- Document assessments, care plans, observations, interventions, patient/family responses, outcomes/evaluations, and referrals according to practice standards and Fraser Health procedures.
Requirements:
- Graduation from an approved school of Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing.
- Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse and/or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
- One year's recent, related experience in an acute psychiatric setting, including experience working with an adolescent population, specialty training in adolescent psychiatry, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Valid BC Driver's license and access to a personal vehicle with appropriate business insurance.
Working with Fraser Health:
The Pediatric Psychiatric Liaison Nurse works in close association with the interprofessional community Child & Youth mental health team, agencies, and other community service providers. This position requires travel to and/or work at various site Emergency departments within Fraser Health.
