Main Purpose and Function

The City of Vancouver is seeking a skilled Cook to join our team at one of our three professional City Golf Courses. As a Cook, you will be responsible for preparing a variety of a la carte breakfast, lunch, and dinner meals, including banquet and buffet functions.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing light meals and short orders from an established menu. Working in a team environment, the Cook must adhere to the principles of proper food handling, preparation, and storage. They will prepare various foods, including vegetables, meats, soups, salads, and baking, by following standardized recipes and methods as determined by their direct supervisor.

The Cook will also be responsible for plating and presentation of food to specifications and cooking for a varying number of guests during peak and non-peak times, providing consistent results. Maintaining a clean kitchen, the Cook will follow hourly, daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning schedules and perform other related tasks, such as washing dishes, pots, pans, storage areas, and floors as required.

Qualifications
  • High school education preferred
  • Valid Food Safe Certification is required
  • Valid Serving it Right certification is a strong asset
  • Experience with preparing and cooking a la carte breakfast, lunch, and dinner meals
  • Experience cooking for banquet or buffet events
  • Experience working in a similar unionized Food and Beverage team environment is desired
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to operate, maintain, and clean standard cooking and kitchen equipment
  • Working knowledge of health hazards in food preparation and service
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 20 kg
  • Ability to provide exemplary customer service
