Packaging Operator Job Description

Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled Packaging Operator to join our team at McCain Foods. As a key member of our production team, you will be responsible for ensuring the efficient operation of our bagging machines and maintaining high-quality packaging standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set up and operate bagging machines to achieve maximum production rates.
  • Monitor packaging waste and implement corrective actions to minimize it.
  • Ensure proper functioning of product scales and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions.
  • Collaborate with the maintenance department to resolve issues and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Perform product changeovers, including machine adjustments and switching between polyethylene film and paper.
  • Verify that case packers are set to meet production and quality requirements.
  • Ensure bags and cases are properly sealed, coded, and meet giveaway targets.
  • Operate bag check weighers, case erectors, X-Ray/Metal Detector, and case tapers.
  • Maintain good housekeeping and adhere to 5S and other scheduled tasks.
  • Document and validate CCPs, and recognize food safety and workmanship concerns.
  • Enter data into SAP and perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Mathematical ability to perform basic calculations.
  • Familiarity with product flow through the packaging area.
  • Knowledge of Statistical Process Control software (OSI PI) and SAP data entry.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work efficiently with effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Physical capability to perform duties, including heavy and/or repetitive lifting (up to 50lbs).
  • Able to work with minimal supervision and adapt to cold temperatures.
  • Preference for candidates with a minimum of Grade 12 education and a proven history of safe work habits.
