Job Summary

This is a challenging opportunity for a skilled Power Engineer II to join our team at NL Health Services. As a Trades Worker II - Power Engineer, you will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of high-pressure steam related equipment within our facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain high-pressure steam related equipment, including PRVs, laundry equipment, AHUs, domestic hot water systems, and MDR sterilizer.
  • Work as shift in charge and maintenance of the combined pressure plant, including steam boilers, heating pumps, air compressors, etc.
  • Perform building equipment maintenance of various mechanical equipment, such as mechanical stretchers, hydraulic operating room tables, air compressors, pumps, bed maintenance, and other related equipment.
  • Orientate to Fire Panel response, operations of the Steam Plant and Emergency Power Generation, and other related maintenance duties as required.
  • Travel throughout the region may be required.
Requirements
  • Graduation from high school with a diploma recognized by the Newfoundland and Labrador Department of Education and Early Childhood Development.
  • Successful completion of a valid Fourth-Class Power Engineer's Certificate as issued by the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and apply diagnostic and troubleshooting skills as required to maintain operations of equipment and facility.
  • Regional Travel may be required.
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Consistent demonstration of Central Health's corporate values; Innovation, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, Excellence.
  • A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required for this position.
  • A satisfactory Certificate of Conduct from the RCMP or local police authority.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a healthcare environment.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years recent experience in the operation and maintenance of a Power Plant.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of computer operation programs including BAS and computerized work order systems.
Working Conditions

This role requires regular standing, walking, climbing, and being in awkward or cramped positions. The successful candidate must be able to lift/move objects up to 25 lbs. and occasionally lift/move >50lbs. Push/Pulling forces up to 50lbsF are required. The work environment presents potential for exposure to scented/chemical products and/or other allergens within publicly accessible areas. Personal protective equipment is required for specific areas.
