Electrical Commissioning Engineer Opportunity

Powell Canada Inc., a leading electrical manufacturing and contracting company, is seeking an experienced Electrical Commissioning Engineer to join our Electrical Division in Edmonton. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe, quality, and performance of Powell equipment across Canada.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Adhere to Powell's current safety and quality standards
  • Complete all site documentation in a timely manner, including weekly time sheets, signed service and repair orders, materials used, and report writing
  • Provide regular and clear communication regarding work schedule to Field Operations Scheduler and District Service Manager
  • Maintain flexible work hours, including overtime and periodic weekend support
  • Be available to travel up to 85% of the year
  • Comply with Powell's standard operating procedures, documentation processes, safety processes, and protocols
  • Coordinate with Powell Project management, customers, vendors, and labor support in a professional and customer-centric manner
  • Able to work in different roles from supporting the Manufacturing Department within-house fabrication to overseeing small crews on installation projects
  • Switchgear and PCR installations
  • DC / AC Switchgear
  • Perform performance testing on Powell equipment and components, including insulation testing (megger testing), Ductor, Hi Potential testing, torque tests, and mechanical / functional testing
  • Perform regular inspections of any issued vehicle or calibrated equipment/tools
  • Provide support to services manufacturing group, including construction, installation, wiring, and testing
  • Duties will include local and domestic travel, PCR installation, switchgear installation, PowlVac breakers, trouble shooting, testing, and repair of mentioned items
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Field service technicians are required to have 8 years as a shop and / or field electrical / breaker technician
  • Exhibit basic knowledge of Electrical Industry manufacturing standards, including sections of ANSI IEEE C37 applicable to the design and manufacture of breakers and switchgear
  • Basic knowledge of the following: ANSI IEEE device function numbers; ampacities of electrical conductors in switchgear applications
  • Basic knowledge of electrical air and surface creepage clearance requirements
  • Basic knowledge in writing accurate and complete test reports, project summaries, and explaining basic anomalies found on a given project
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Basic familiarity with contactor and circuit breaker schematics
  • Basic understanding of hi potential testing
  • Basic understanding of low resistance testing
  • Basic working knowledge of mechanical and electrical functional testing of circuit breakers and electrical switchgear
  • NICET Level 1 certification
  • HUET / Offshore Survival Training
  • NFPA 70E Trained
  • OSHA 10 / 30 Trained
Working & Environmental Conditions:

The Field Service Technician typically performs duties in an industrial environment. This position requires services both locally and across the Continental US.   • Work on ladders of all types
  • Work on scissors and bucket lifts (on occasion)
