Job Summary

The Chemical Technician (Day Shift) is a key member of our team at GFL Environmental, responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient handling of waste and materials. This role requires a strong understanding of chemical processes and a commitment to environmental stewardship.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Waste Reception and Sampling: Receive and inspect all client waste, including bulk liquids and solids, and take samples for lab analysis.
  • Equipment Operation: Load and unload waste vehicles, including vacuum trucks, tankers, and trailers, and operate plant machinery as needed.
  • Environmental Compliance: Perform wastewater treatment and discharge in accordance with site-specific Environmental Certificates of Approvals (ECAs) and associated compliance requirements.
  • Material Handling: Assist with preparing shipments of hazardous and non-hazardous waste for transport.
  • Incident Reporting: Notify the Shift Supervisor/General Manager of any defects, damages, mistakes, errors, contamination, spills, or accidents.
Requirements:
  • Education: Post-Secondary education in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Technology, or an internship in a related field.
  • License: G license required.
  • Experience: Familiarity with waste management regulations, Ontario regulation 347, and Transportation of Dangerous Goods is an asset. Previous hazardous and non-hazardous waste management experience is also an asset.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to lift upwards of 50 lbs and work in a mostly outdoor environment.
  • Availability: Emergency response availability, including evenings and weekends.
