Position Overview:
The Registered Nurse, under the supervision of the Patient Care Manager, is responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of advanced wound care strategies for both inpatients and outpatients. This role involves close collaboration with the interdisciplinary healthcare team at Sioux Lookout Meno Ya Win Health Centre (SLMHC) and associated partners to enhance the wound care program and ensure the delivery of safe, holistic, and patient-centered care.
Required Qualifications:
- Valid registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Current Basic CPR certification (BCLS) is mandatory.
- At least one year of experience in assessing, treating, and monitoring complex wounds.
- Specialized training in advanced wound care.
- WOCC(C) or IIWCC certification or a commitment to obtain it.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities, with a non-judgmental approach and strong teamwork skills.
- Proficient clinical assessment capabilities.
- Effective problem-solving skills.
- Physically capable of fulfilling the responsibilities of the position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough wound assessments for both inpatients and outpatients.
- Formulate and/or suggest a comprehensive care plan.
- Serve as a knowledgeable resource for colleagues, physicians, and external agencies.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary care teams to optimize patient outcomes.
- Provide educational support to patients dealing with various types of wounds, skin conditions, fistulas, and ostomies.
- Demonstrate proper techniques for specialized dressings and procedures.
- Perform additional nursing duties as assigned.
- Be prepared to work the designated shift rotation (Monday – Friday).
- Consistent and reliable attendance is crucial for this role.
