About the Role

The Climate and Environmental Expert will conduct professional consulting work, applying a sound understanding of climate change mitigation and adaptation knowledge in the planning and execution of projects. This requires the ability to work independently and assist in the coordination of complex assignments, contributing to the development of BMT's brand reputation for superior quality technical work with a high customer focus.

In this role, the successful candidate will work closely with the Senior Consultant (Climate and Environment), BMT Canada, as well as other BMT experts to support the delivery of climate and environmental programs and projects.

The Climate and Environmental Expert will:

  • Understand and communicate climate change resilience and adaptation, and its relevance to government and private entities.
  • Have a strong background in climate change mitigation, natural hazard management, sustainability, and/or other relevant environmental consulting and modeling disciplines.
  • Provide strategic and defendable advice to clients in the defence, energy, and resource sectors.
  • Use their technical expertise to support the evaluation and execution of climate-related projects.
  • Project manage a range of projects with a high degree of oversight and planning, ensuring projects are executed to time and budget constraints and to client satisfaction.

In this role, you will be able to:

  • Perform high-quality and professional technical work involving considerable independence in approach, and a high degree of originality, ingenuity, and judgement.
  • Serve as a technical specialist in a climate-related or related environmental management field, applying advanced concepts, principles, and methods in an assigned area.
  • Liaise with clients, potential and current, for the purposes of service delivery.
  • Prepare, review, and submit proposals/tenders, collaborating with other departments as needed.
  • Share knowledge and collaborate with staff within other areas of expertise.
  • Adhere to and actively promote quality, safety, and environmental procedures/standards.
  • Adhere to and actively promote BMT operating standards.
  • Project manage a range of projects to scope and within time, cost, and quality requirements.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of relevant software, systems, and processes.

About You

We are looking for enthusiastic and flexible team members who possess the following knowledge, experience, and skills:

Essential:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, or other relevant area of study.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience post-graduation in a consulting, government, or applied research capacity undertaking projects in Canada and/or.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong technical background in climate change mitigation and adaptation, with experience or exposure to the defence, energy, infrastructure, government, or other industry sectors.

Desirable:

  • Experience in climate change mitigation and other aligned sustainability or environment disciplines.
  • Experience in developing hydrodynamic and water quality models.
  • Experience working within the Government, Defence, Transport, or Resources sector.
  • Experience working with complex projects.
  • Post-graduate qualifications (Masters, PhD) in relevant area of study.
