As a Radiation Therapy Specialist, you will deliver essential radiation services and patient support in alignment with established protocols and professional standards in radiation oncology. Your role encompasses treatment planning, administration, and patient follow-up care.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive patient care by conducting assessments, reviewing medical histories, and educating patients and their families about the treatment process and potential side effects.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure comprehensive patient management.
- Execute treatment planning tasks, including: interpreting and implementing radiation treatment orders for both brachytherapy and external beam therapy, developing computerized treatment plans, utilizing immobilization and beam modification devices, and performing precise dose calculations. Maintain thorough treatment records and construct necessary immobilization and beam shaping devices. Utilize simulation equipment for the creation and validation of treatment plans. Position patients accurately to optimize dose distribution and ensure reproducibility of treatment plans. Conduct both manual and computerized planning calculations for various radiation treatment techniques.
- Assist patients in understanding their treatment plans and assess their comprehension of the associated effects.
- Ensure patients and their families are informed about available services at PHSA and within the community.
- Maintain accurate patient records by documenting relevant information regarding patient history, assessments, symptom management, and educational efforts.
- Conduct quality assurance evaluations of equipment in your designated area, adhering to established protocols, maintaining records of these evaluations, and addressing any equipment issues promptly.
Qualifications
- A degree in Radiation Therapy or an equivalent certification, with certification from the Canadian Association for Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT).
- Recent completion of a Radiation Therapy training program or active employment as a Radiation Therapist within the last five years.

- Strong interpersonal and communication abilities, enabling effective verbal and written interactions with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
- Proven ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative healthcare team.
- Physical capability to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.
- Competence in independently managing tasks and prioritizing workload.
- Application of clinical and technical expertise in practice.
- Proficiency in operating relevant medical equipment.
- Skills in CPR techniques.
