About the Role

The Environmental Consultant will work in a work environment where health and safety is a top priority. They will work closely with colleagues from the Environment and Operations departments as part of projects that involve constant collaboration with production and maintenance personnel and also with subcontractors.

Key Responsibilities

Under the responsibility of the Director, Environment and Decarbonation, the Environmental Consultant will be responsible for:

  • Contributing, with the collaboration of the Environment team, to the maintenance and evolution of the environmental management system in accordance with the ISO standard in AMPLC sites (9 industrial business units and 7 RMI business units, a joint venture);
  • Carrying out regular site visits to conduct environmental compliance verification (ECV) and follow up on corrective actions to be taken in collaboration with Operations teams;
  • Identifying corrective or improvement measures for each site with responsible operations personnel and offering technical support;
  • Preparing ministerial authorization requests related to our projects and operations;
  • Contributing to the environmental upgrade and improvement program for sites;
  • Organizing and supervising, with the support of the Environment team, environmental studies required on sites, such as Phase I and Phase 2 site environmental assessments, sampling of liquid effluents or air, including:
    • Preparing tender documents;
    • Monitoring field work;
    • Following up on the quality of study reports;
  • Participating, with the Environment team, in the compilation of annual data and the preparation of reports required by government authorities;
  • Intervening in environmental events or incidents (e.g. spills):
    • Supporting plants in implementing corrective measures;
    • Collecting required samples (e.g. contaminated soils, wastewater, surface water) to verify the effectiveness of corrective work;
  • Accompanying/ coordinating certain environmental work performed by subcontractors or consultants on ArcelorMittal Products Long Canada sites or RMI sites:
    • Ensuring that subcontractors and consultants comply with all occupational health and safety standards;
    • Issuing and updating daily work permits;
    • Verifying the quality of work;

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A bachelor's or master's degree in environment or a relevant science;
  • A valid driver's license and the ability to travel as needed between Contrecoeur, Longueuil, and Montreal sites;
  • Availability for occasional travel to RMI metal recycling sites in Abitibi and Saint-Hubert, as well as the Hamilton plant;
  • 3 to 5 years of experience as an environmental professional (intermediate level);
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, SharePoint, etc.).
