Job Summary

The Valuation Manager role is a critical function within the Royal Bank of Canada, responsible for ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of fair value estimates for the bank's inventory. This position will design and maintain a robust valuations environment to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, while also ensuring that fair value estimates are representative of traded markets.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly Independent Price Verification (IPV) and Valuation Adjustments (VA) calculations for various Fixed Income products, including Government Bonds, Corporate Bonds, Securitized Products, and Loans.
  • Develop and leverage knowledge of financial markets, products, and quantitative backgrounds to evaluate IPV results and support the resolution of IPV differences.
  • Explore market data sources to determine the best measure of fair value for financial instruments.
  • Ensure that existing VA/IPV processes remain aligned with business needs, regulatory requirements, and accounting best practices.
  • Provide detailed reports and analysis to RBC regional valuations committees, business heads, senior managers, and heads of Valuations, Market Risk, and Finance on VA/IPV results.
  • Communicate with Front Office and/or related counterparties to explain IPV/VA results and/or month-over-month movement.
  • Develop new and enhance existing Valuation policies, including methodology and procedure documentation, and sources of external market data.
  • Challenge existing IPV methodologies, working practices, and improve data quality and process efficiencies.
Requirements
  • Undergraduate degree with 2+ years of finance-related working experience.
  • Expertise in fixed income financial products.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel.
  • Strong understanding of valuation processes and their impact.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Excellent multi-tasking skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in a quantitative area.
  • Knowledge of VBA, Python, and database tools such as SQL.
  • Knowledge of Bloomberg, Intex, Reuters, and other financial analytics software.
