The national Finance team is committed to creating, enhancing, and safeguarding value for our organization and its stakeholders. Our proficient team educates and influences the organization to make informed, risk-aware decisions. Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee contributions to the reporting process from various Co-operators companies and departments.
- Prepare journal entries for complex manual accounting tasks, including reinsurance, investment contracts, segregated and pooled funds, and actuarial calculations.
- Review and analyze reporting and account balances to ensure precision.
- Stay updated on GAAP, IFRS, and industry developments.
- Act as a technical resource and mentor for junior reporting team members.
- Serve as a key advisor on accounting and reporting matters to senior Finance leaders and departments.
- Proactively recommend process enhancements or solutions to challenges affecting all Finance teams.
- Manage process and reporting improvement initiatives within Finance and the broader community.
Qualifications for Success:
- Possess an innovative mindset to enhance operational efficiencies with a focus on client needs.
- Utilize critical thinking skills to identify assumptions, evaluate arguments, draw conclusions, and propose proactive solutions.
- Exhibit strong communication skills to effectively convey messages and consider diverse perspectives.
- Build trusting relationships and provide guidance to foster the development of colleagues.
Requirements:
- CPA - CMA, CGA, or CA designation.
- A minimum of five years of experience in accounting and financial statement preparation.
- Solid understanding of reporting for life or property and casualty insurers.
- Ability to analyze reported data to identify and rectify significant errors or explain notable variances.
- Proficient in spreadsheet applications, as well as database and word processing software.
