The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is in search of dedicated and adaptable individuals for the role of Recreation and Restorative Support Specialist.
Position Overview:
The Recreation and Restorative Support Specialist will play a crucial role in evaluating, strategizing, executing, and reviewing therapeutic recreation and restorative services tailored to the needs of residents, working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Exhibit core values and competencies essential for the role
- Assist residents in specific exercise regimens or restorative activities
- Design and implement engaging programs that reflect residents' interests
- Draft detailed descriptions and guidelines for various programs
- Guide students during their practical training
- Promote resident involvement in recreational activities
- Contribute to care evaluations
- Engage with volunteers and local community resources
- Oversee volunteers during program execution
- Maintain accurate documentation and records
- Participate in quality improvement committees
Essential Qualifications:
- Completion of secondary education or equivalent
- Relevant post-secondary diploma or degree
- A minimum of one year of experience in a healthcare activation setting
- Proficient communication and computer skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Training in Gentle Persuasive Approach and Gerontology is advantageous
- Experience working with individuals with Alzheimer's and dementia is beneficial
Required Certifications:
- Safe Food Handling Certificate
- Restorative Care Education Certificate
- Membership in TRO or CTRA is a plus
- Smart Serve Certification is an asset
Work Environment:
- Indoor work setting
- Flexible scheduling, including weekends and holidays
Physical Demands:
- Annual flu vaccination and TB screening required
- Capability to lift and transport specified weights
Compensation:
This position offers a permanent casual employment status with a 15% compensation in lieu of benefits and 4% vacation pay in accordance with the UNIFOR RVG collective agreement.
