Key Responsibilities
  • Under the supervision of the AEH Engineering Manager, the Senior FPGA Design Engineer will be responsible for developing avionics products for critical safety and/or military applications.
  • As a key member of the development team, the selected candidate will be a significant contributor involved in defining, implementing, testing, and delivering firmware designs.
  • The designs will utilize point-to-point technologies following standard processes to develop globally competitive solutions and provide superior performance, quality, and capacity at aggressive cost targets.
Daily Responsibilities
  • Utilize the AEH DO-254 related development and certification process for airborne electronic hardware (AEH) for functional allocation, design, simulation, synthesis, placement, and routing, planning of tests, verification, and introduction into production.
  • Design digital point-to-point hardware using technologies such as processor interfaces and DSP, video signal processing, input/output blocks, and standard logic.
  • Support architecture, design, and development of printed circuit boards for prototyping and implementation of complex digital systems on FPGA or ASIC.
  • Participate in proposal calls and program proposals, develop estimates, and plan projects.
  • Ensure supervision and follow-up of AEH activities for a team of developers and verifiers, including task allocation, result planning, budget management, and risk management.
  • Act as the primary interface with other design groups to ensure alignment of design steps and deadlines.
  • Use CMC development processes and participate in design reviews focusing on key performance characteristics, safety/reliability, testing, and manufacturability.
  • Analyze system and/or sub-system functional requirements and participate in defining functional and performance requirements for the FPGA.
  • Lead and participate in defining validation and verification plans for the FPGA.
  • Develop verification test benches for simulation, components, and functional models in SystemVerilog, using standardized verification methodologies such as UVM.
  • Develop and execute test procedures, write test reports.
  • Produce documentation on requirements, design descriptions, tests, and production support.
  • Support direction, systems engineering, and manufacturing in various planning or problem-solving tasks.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical or computer engineering (or equivalent).
  • Seven (7) years or more of industrial experience in designing and verifying complex digital systems on FPGA.
  • Experienced technical supervisor of junior team members.
  • Autonomous, adaptable, proactive, diligent, and possessing solid interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of best practices, methodologies, processes, and tools in engineering.
  • Experience in estimation, planning, and project follow-up, as well as supervision of teams.
  • Good communication skills, both written and oral.
Assets
  • Detailed knowledge of avionics products (display systems, sensor systems, or GNSS systems, for example).
  • Experience with Xilinx FPGA (7 Series, Ultrascale) and the design tool (Vivado).
  • Experience with automated testing using scripting languages similar to Python.
  • Knowledge of Mathworks products.
  • Knowledge of civil and military aviation standards such as DO-254 development process and qualification standards DO-160 and MIL-STD-810/461.
  • Knowledge of Modelsim/Questasim.
  • Knowledge of SystemVerilog and the universal verification methodology (UVM).
  • Knowledge of bus standards ARINC, AMBA, AXI, PCIe, and Ethernet.
  • Experience in designing for safety/reliability and avionics/critical systems for flight.
  • Mastery of configuration, documentation, and traceability tools (Microsoft Office, DOORS, etc.).
  • Bilingualism (French and English, spoken and written).
