Food Service Worker

The Nova Scotia Health Authority is seeking a skilled Food Service Worker to join our team in the patient and retail food service setting. As a Food Service Worker, you will be responsible for preparing and serving meals and supplies to patients, residents, veterans, staff, families, and customers. You will also be responsible for cleaning and sanitizing patient trays, related equipment, and workplaces. The successful candidate will support safe food handling procedures and provide overall service excellence.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare and serve patient meals, including assembling, portioning, and serving meals, as well as preparing nourishments, special feedings, beverages, and menu items.
- Deliver and distribute selective menus and patient meals, as well as deliver nourishments, supplies, and collect soiled patient trays.
- Participate in receiving and storing supplies, using First In First Out (FIFO) procedures, and receive and interpret patient diet/meal orders, confirming patient meal requirements.
- Generate and print menus, reports, tallies, and labels, as well as print Meditech/STAR reports and compare to CBORD/Vision reports.
- Clean and sanitize dishes, utensils, equipment, and work areas, maintaining basic work area safety and sanitation, and adhering to safe food handling and hygiene practices.
We are looking for a candidate who possesses the following qualifications:
- Grade 12/GED or equivalent, or demonstrated skills and/or relevant work experience, with equivalency clearly stated in your cover letter and resume.
- Demonstrated competency in English and basic Math.
- Restaurant experience is considered an asset.
- Customer Service Skills are considered an asset.
- Ability to work as part of a team to provide services and achieve departmental and/or organizational goals.
- Ability to perform duties within expected timeframes and standards of accuracy.
- Ability to communicate effectively while demonstrating civility and respect.
- Competencies in other languages are an asset, with French preferred.
- Frequent physical demands include extensive standing and walking, bending, lifting (maximum of 35-40lbs), pulling, and pushing, and transferring/transporting equipment.
- Permanent Part-time / 90% FTE / 67.5 Hours Bi-Weekly.
$19.26 - $20.02 hourly.
