Key Responsibilities
  • Administer Medications: Safely administer medications to residents, ensuring accurate dosages and monitoring for potential side effects.
  • Conduct Specimen Collection: Collect and process specimens for laboratory testing, maintaining confidentiality and adhering to infection control protocols.
  • Ensure Infection Control: Implement and maintain infection control measures to prevent the spread of illnesses and maintain a clean and safe environment.
  • Monitor Nutritional Intake: Assess and monitor residents' nutritional needs, ensuring they receive adequate nutrition and hydration.
  • Observe and Record Medication Effects: Monitor residents' responses to medications, recording and reporting any adverse effects or concerns.
  • Record Medication Effects in Patient Files: Accurately document medication effects, allergies, and other relevant information in residents' medical records.
  • Take Vital Signs: Regularly take and record vital signs, including temperature, blood pressure, and pulse.
  • Monitor Established Respiratory and IV Therapy: Monitor and maintain established respiratory and IV therapy plans, ensuring residents receive optimal care.
  • Provide Safety and Health Education: Educate residents and their families on safety and health topics, promoting healthy habits and independence.
  • Provide Nursing Services: Provide nursing services within the scope of practice, based on patient assessment and care planning procedures.
  • Monitor Progress and Evaluate Effectiveness: Regularly monitor residents' progress, evaluating the effectiveness of nursing interventions and consulting with the healthcare team as needed.
Requirements
  • Certifications and Licenses: Completion of the Canadian Practical Nurse Registration Examination.
  • Security and Safety: A criminal record check, immunization records, tuberculosis test, and vulnerable sector check are required.
  • Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities: Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, under pressure, and with repetitive tasks. Physically demanding, with manual dexterity, attention to detail, and ability to distinguish between colors.
  • Personal Suitability: Accurate, client-focused, dependable, efficient interpersonal skills, flexibility, initiative, interpersonal awareness, judgment, organized, reliability, team player, and values and ethics.
  • Experience: 1 to less than 7 months of experience.
