PFM Construction is a reputable firm specializing in excavation and civil engineering projects, focusing on underground utilities, site servicing, road construction, and excavation. We are seeking a skilled Civil Superintendent to enhance our growing team. The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 10 years of civil experience in managing water, sanitary, storm, and hydro/telephone utilities, demonstrating a commitment to excellence in workmanship.

Job Overview:

As a Civil Superintendent at PFM Construction, your primary responsibility will be overseeing one or multiple job sites dedicated to the installation of various underground utilities. You will ensure that all installations comply with local and municipal specifications, maintaining the correct grade and elevation. This position demands meticulous attention to detail, adherence to safety protocols, and strong communication skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage construction projects, ensuring compliance with contract documents and PFM Construction's established procedures.
  • Enforce safety standards for all personnel, including subcontractors, to maintain a secure and hazard-free work environment.
  • Prepare and submit necessary reports, including daily logs, health and safety documentation, and maintenance records, in accordance with reporting protocols.
  • Coordinate daily construction operations, managing construction teams, equipment, material supply, and subcontractors effectively.
  • Work closely with the Project Manager to develop and execute construction schedules, confirming the availability of manpower, equipment, and subcontractors.

Qualifications:

  • At least 10 years of experience in civil utility construction, with specialized expertise in deep sewer projects.
  • Strong understanding of contract management, with the ability to identify and address work outside the project scope.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment, meeting deadlines under pressure.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills, with a strong focus on detail.
  • Proven safety record with a thorough understanding of occupational hazards and safe practices around live utilities and sloped terrain.
  • Proficient in trenching, shoring, trench box assembly, and safe excavation methods.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with experience in accurately completing field paperwork and timesheets.
  • In-depth knowledge of pipe gradients, materials, specifications, fittings, assembly, proper bedding, backfill, and compaction methods, as well as service protection.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with clients, project managers, internal teams, and subcontractors.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of MMCD and OH&S regulations, along with a solid grasp of construction materials and methodologies.
  • Dedication to safety, quality, and achieving production objectives.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills, ensuring responsible use of equipment and tools.
  • Strong commitment to delivering high-quality workmanship.
  • Proactive problem-solving abilities to identify and address issues efficiently.
  • Willingness to work 5 to 6 days a week, 8+ hours per day, including extended hours as necessary.
  • Ability to travel to various job site locations in the Lower Mainland.
