Job Summary

This position under a Nurse provides and assists with daily living skills, activities, and quality care for residents with intellectual disabilities. The role involves assisting with feeding, toileting, and ambulation, visual observations, monitoring and recording vitals, implementing plans and therapeutic plans, ensuring safety and well-being, and other related duties.

Key Responsibilities

  • Attend required classes, including facility policies and procedures, nursing and therapeutic support methods, and safety and security.
  • Receive hands-on training, observing and assisting professional and higher-level non-professional nursing and therapeutic staff.
  • Monitor and record temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, and nutritional intake/output, and alert professional staff to significant irregularities.
  • Implement prescribed treatment plans involving reality orientation, sensory stimulation, range of motion exercise, and application of splints and braces.
  • Observe and supervise individuals within facility surroundings, ensuring appropriate location and security.
  • Escort individuals to social and recreational activities and medical appointments on and off campus.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary care teams, providing information about individuals' overall physical condition, abilities, and behavioral characteristics.
  • Apply appropriate interventions to prevent or de-escalate inappropriate behaviors.
  • Assist individuals with personal hygiene and maintain individual surroundings, ensuring appropriate infection control and sanitary conditions.

Requirements

Applicants must have education, training, and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  • Six months of experience in applying laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of nursing procedures, such as monitoring or recording temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respiration, and nutritional intake/output.
  • Knowledge of narrative report writing.
