LOCATION OF THE POSITION
Situated on southern Vancouver Island, North Cowichan employs a dedicated team of 450 staff members and serves a community of over 31,000 residents. The Municipality is strategically located between Nanaimo and Victoria, encompassing a diverse array of communities, including Chemainus, Crofton, Maple Bay, and South End/University Village. Your office will be conveniently located along the Trans-Canada Highway, facilitating easy commutes in any direction.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
In this role, you will provide support to the engineering team. Reporting directly to the Director of Engineering, you will collaborate closely with the Senior Manager, Engineering (Utilities - Water and Sanitary Systems). Together, you will coordinate all engineering initiatives, ensuring effective planning and execution across the municipality. You will share accountability for the Municipality's extensive infrastructure networks, which include:
- Three water treatment and distribution systems
- Four sanitary collection and treatment systems
- An extensive road and active transportation network
- The drainage and flood protection network

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
You are an effective communicator and a collaborative team player. Your experience in project and budget management equips you to lead staff in a unionized environment while overseeing the work of consultants. You possess quick thinking abilities and demonstrate composure under pressure when addressing inquiries from the public, elected officials, other governmental levels, and external agencies. The Municipality recognizes its location on the traditional territories of the Quw'utsun and Snuneymuxw First Nations; thus, experience in fostering and supporting Indigenous partnerships will be considered an asset.
