Job Summary

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is seeking a skilled Recreation Therapist to join our team at Riverview Gardens Long-Term Care Home. As a Recreation Therapist, you will play a vital role in assessing, programming, and implementing therapeutic recreation, leisure, and restorative needs for our residents.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess and develop individualized recreation and restorative plans for residents
  • Implement and evaluate recreation and restorative programs, including exercise, leisure, and social activities
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive care and support for residents
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community resources and volunteers to enhance resident experiences
  • Provide leadership and supervision to volunteers and students on placement
  • Document resident progress and program evaluations
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to a positive work environment

Requirements

  • Secondary school graduation diploma or equivalent education
  • College diploma or university degree in recreation therapy, therapeutic recreation, or related field
  • At least one year of experience in an activation department in a healthcare setting
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Basic computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office

Preferred Qualifications

  • Gentle Persuasive Approach training
  • Gerontology specialty courses
  • Experience working with clients with Alzheimer's and/or dementia

Working Conditions

  • Works mostly indoors
  • Variable hours, including weekends and statutory holidays
  • Must be able to accept call-in hours on short notice
