Position Overview: The Asphalt Paving Operator is responsible for managing the quantity and consistency of asphalt laid during construction projects. This role involves estimating the necessary amounts of material to achieve the desired grade on the finished surface.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and regulate the distribution of asphalt mix to ensure uniformity, achieving the specified compacted mat thickness and cross-section while facilitating proper surface drainage.
  • Ensure accurate depth application of asphalt using both manual and automated grade controls.
  • Set up, operate, and dismantle automatic grade controls as needed.
  • Utilize screed controls on the paver to adjust mat thickness by tilting the screed forward to decrease depth or backward to increase depth.
  • Collaborate with fellow paving crew members to discuss and plan project paving procedures and objectives.

Qualifications:

  • Possession of a Class 5 Driver's License and a valid Class 5 Operator's License.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience working within a paving crew.
  • At least 2 years of experience in asphalt raking on a paving crew.
  • Strong understanding of asphalt and raking techniques.
  • Knowledge of paving construction methods, asphalt and road construction materials, heavy equipment operation, and industry standards.
  • Willingness to work in remote locations and out of town as required.
  • Availability to work overtime as necessary.
