Position Summary

As a member of our Western Canada Irrigation team, you will engage in significant projects, including the Westside Irrigation Rehabilitation Project (WIRP). Stantec, in collaboration with Prairie Engineering Partners, is tasked with executing fieldwork, planning, and advancing engineering designs for this initiative.

The ideal candidate will possess technical expertise applicable to water conveyance projects focused on irrigation and planning for various clients, including governmental, municipal, and private sectors. Responsibilities may encompass new infrastructure development, system expansions, upgrades, and rehabilitation efforts. A solid background in similar projects is expected.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft engineering reports, designs, and specifications pertinent to irrigation planning and water conveyance projects.
  • Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and consultants.
  • Conduct fieldwork and investigations as necessary.
  • Support proposal development as needed.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior engineers.
  • Participate in training sessions to promote ongoing professional development.
  • Comply with Stantec's Environmental Health and Safety standards.

Qualifications

Skills and Experience

  • Demonstrated experience in irrigation system planning and design.
  • Experience with related water conveyance projects is advantageous.
  • Comprehensive understanding of project implementation phases and engineering design processes.
  • Knowledge of soil-water interactions.
  • Proficient in hydraulic analysis and modeling.
  • Strong communication, writing, and presentation abilities.
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Self-driven and results-oriented.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office; experience with Microsoft Project is a plus.
  • Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD Civil3D is beneficial.
  • Experience with hydraulic/hydrologic modeling tools (e.g., MikeUrban, PCSWMM, StormCAD, WaterCAD) is an asset.
  • Possession of a valid Class 5 Driver's License.

Education and Experience

  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in water conveyance projects, emphasizing irrigation planning and design.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field is required.
  • Registered as a P.Eng with APEGA in Alberta.

This role typically involves working in an office environment with extended periods at a desk, alongside fieldwork that may expose you to various weather conditions.
