Job Summary
The Regional Municipality of York is seeking a highly skilled Dental Care Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will be responsible for providing clinical dental services to our clients, including seniors, and promoting oral health and access to our services.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide a broad range of basic dental treatment, including dental restorations, extractions, oral hygiene procedures, and root canal treatment on selected teeth.
- Perform emergency dental procedures and meet with patients to discuss and treat dental concerns and establish a plan for treatment.
- Verify and apply medical history prior to treatment by consulting with family members and physicians when necessary, and refer clients for medical testing if warranted.
- Receive referrals from private dental and medical providers, and make referrals to other appropriate dental practices and specialists.
- Keep and maintain patient records of treatments and recommend and develop program policies and ensure implementation of policies and procedures in a dental clinic.
- Provide clients with access to social/health/community resources, and collaborate with partner agencies.
- Assist the Manager in developing annual business/work plans and in developing service plans and staffing proposals.
- Provide input into budget and business plan development, policies and procedures.
- Provide clinical oversight to clinical support staff in the day-to-day operations and dental practices.
- Ensure that operating staff work in a safe manner and utilize all required health and safety equipment and protective devices and follow all measures and procedures as required by the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and Regional Policies.
- Respond to inquiries and resolve concerns, as appropriate.
- Ensure that services provided meet Regional customer service standards.
Qualifications
- Successful completion of a Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree from a university recognized by the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario and eligible to practice clinical dentistry in Ontario.
- Must be a current member in good standing with the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work cooperatively with staff and clients.
- Comprehensive knowledge of dental procedures, tools, and diagnostics.
- Demonstrated knowledge of relevant Standards, Acts, and Regulations.
- Knowledge and demonstrated ability in corporate core competencies including communication, teamwork and collaboration, and personal ownership.
- Computer literacy utilizing MS Office software applications.
- Ability to travel to off-site locations in a timely and efficient manner, as required.
- Ability to work outside regular business hours, as required.
