Position Overview:

This role involves providing essential legal support to tenants navigating the complexities of the Landlord & Tenant Board (LTB) through virtual consultations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver concise legal guidance to tenants, encompassing legal advice, negotiation support, mediation assistance, document preparation, and limited representation at the LTB.
  • Engage in community legal education initiatives, training sessions, and collaborative meetings with the Tenant Duty Counsel team.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities for Tenant Duty Counsel across the province.
  • Occasional travel may be required to offer legal services at various LTB locations.
  • Compile statistical data and reports as directed by the Supervisory Duty Counsel.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned by the Supervisory Duty Counsel.
Qualifications:
  • Active membership with the Law Society of Ontario (Lawyer designation) in good standing.
  • Experience representing clients before administrative tribunals, particularly the Ontario Rental Housing Tribunal and/or Landlord and Tenant Board.
  • Strong understanding of administrative law and familiarity with landlord/tenant legal frameworks.
  • Awareness of the diverse legal challenges faced by low-income tenants in Ontario.
  • Preference for collaborative work and demonstrated commitment to social justice.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including advocacy and interviewing capabilities.
Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in legal clinics or student legal aid, background in non-profit organizations, and bilingual communication skills are advantageous.

Compensation:

The position offers a competitive salary, pro-rated based on experience.
