Position Overview: We are seeking a passionate and adaptable Music Educator/Organist to contribute to our Upper School Music Department. The role encompasses performing organ music at school events, directing the school choir, leading an additional instrumental group, and instructing music theory for students in grades 8 to 10.

Key Responsibilities:

Academic Duties:

  • Develop and execute course objectives, lesson plans, and assessments aligned with IB and College standards.
  • Utilize effective teaching strategies for high school music students, including inquiry-based learning and differentiated instruction.
  • Create an inclusive classroom environment that fosters student engagement and growth.
  • Maintain regular communication regarding student progress with faculty, administration, and families.
  • Incorporate technology to enhance learning experiences and support student organization.
  • Design engaging assessments and provide constructive feedback to promote continuous improvement.
  • Stay informed about developments in music education and adapt instructional methods accordingly.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and educational conferences.

Advising Responsibilities:

  • Engage with students in advising groups to support their academic and personal growth.
  • Understand the unique profiles of each advisee and provide tailored support.
  • Model the values of the institution, including learning, community, and service.
  • Facilitate communication between the school and families regarding academic and non-academic matters.
  • Conduct advising sessions and deliver the advising curriculum effectively.

Co-Curricular Involvement:

  • Lead instrumental groups, including Concert Bands and Jazz Ensembles, with enthusiasm and expertise.
  • Actively participate in school events such as graduations and community gatherings.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated creativity and passion for working with students in a collaborative environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build professional relationships with students, colleagues, and families.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
  • Commitment to equity, fairness, and the holistic development of students.
  • Ability to adapt to diverse student needs and learning styles.
  • Relevant educational background in music or related fields is preferred.
  • Experience with MYP and/or International Baccalaureate programs is an asset.
