Métis Family Resource Adoptions Specialist
Location: Edmonton, Alberta
Position Status: Full-time (40 hours/week) Permanent Position
The Métis Nation of Alberta is seeking a dedicated Métis Family Resource Adoptions Specialist (MFRAS). Reporting to the Métis Family Resource Program Manager within the Children and Family Services department, the successful candidate will facilitate the registration process for individuals who are adopted and pursuing Métis citizenship. The MFRAS will serve as a navigator and intermediary between various provincial entities, including Vital Statistics/Records & Registry departments, and the applicants to assist in acquiring essential birth documents and adoption packages necessary for MNA citizenship, while also providing trauma-informed support.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a liaison between applicants and provincial bodies regarding Vital Statistics/Records & Registry.
- Advocate for applicants facing challenges in obtaining vital birth documents due to historical issues such as residential schools or adoption limitations.
- Oversee the registration process for the Métis Nation of Alberta, including document requests, data entry, and application processing.
- Provide sensitive, trauma-informed support to applicants receiving personal information.
- Ensure confidentiality and proper management of protected documents.
- Build and maintain collaborative partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of Métis Nation of Alberta programs for effective referrals.
- Complete administrative tasks, manage projects, and participate in meetings as required.
- Represent the Children and Family Services Department in community events and engagements.
- Engage in departmental planning activities.
- Support other initiatives within the Métis Nation of Alberta's Children's Services and undertake additional duties as assigned.

- Understanding of Métis culture, values, and history.
Qualifications
- Degree/Diploma in Social Services or a related field.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in the Human Services sector.
- Familiarity with the Child and Youth Enhancement Act and privacy legislation.
- Indigenous Awareness Training is an asset.
Other Requirements
- Availability for occasional evening and weekend work.
- Some travel within Alberta may be necessary.
- Must possess a valid Class 5 driver's license and have access to a vehicle.
- Successful completion of a Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check and a Child Intervention Record Check is mandatory.
