Position Overview

Reporting to the Manager of WSFU/SOTU, the Clinical Team Supervisor plays a vital role in supporting the leadership team within the Complex Care and Recovery practice. This position involves collaborating with an interprofessional team to ensure the delivery of client-centered care, aligned with the strategic objectives of the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health.

The Clinical Team Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the communication and coordination of client admissions, discharges, transfers, and appointments during assigned shifts, as well as for future shifts as necessary.

This role is crucial in facilitating service delivery, maintaining high standards of quality and safety. The Supervisor will ensure clarity in nurse/patient assignments, reflecting accountability for care, while accurately recording client assignments according to established unit protocols and standards.

Additionally, the Supervisor will manage breaks, coverage, and client activities, continuously assessing unit needs and advocating for staffing adjustments as required.

New staff members, including Nursing Resources Unit personnel and new graduate nurses, will be linked with appropriate resources and oriented to unit procedures, ensuring a smooth transition into the team.

In collaboration with clinical supervisors, the Supervisor will coordinate support for students from various disciplines, guiding them through unit procedures and assisting with client care.

Collaboration with the manager is essential regarding staff involvement in off-unit meetings, training, and educational events, ensuring appropriate nursing coverage is assigned based on unit acuity and the needs of orienting staff.

The Supervisor will facilitate clinical rounds and care conferences as needed, ensuring effective communication within the unit and with other service areas.

Accurate reporting of census and unit activities is a key responsibility, including the provision of bed flow and transfer of care reports as required.

Depending on unit needs, the Supervisor may carry a patient assignment and undertake additional duties as necessary.

Promoting a healthy workplace that values diversity and teamwork is essential, alongside contributing to the development and evaluation of best practices that enhance nursing and client care.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will be a registered nurse in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario, holding a current B.C.L.S. (CPR) certification. Preference will be given to those with a BScN and CNA certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing.

Candidates should have extensive experience working with individuals facing major mental illnesses with forensic backgrounds, demonstrating the ability to navigate the forensic system and manage risks associated with aggressive behavior.

Strong leadership skills in problem-solving, decision-making, conflict resolution, and effective communication are essential. The candidate should be capable of thinking at both program and unit levels, participating in organizational change initiatives.

Effective communication with team members, including management, is crucial, as is an understanding of the roles and responsibilities of interdisciplinary team members. Maintaining a culture of safety for all stakeholders in accordance with regulatory standards is critical.

Bilingualism (French/English) or proficiency in a second language is considered an asset.
