About the Role

We are seeking an experienced IT Business Analyst to join our Business Relationship Management team at the City of New York. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for fostering a positive relationship between IT and our business partners, working directly with business teams to gain an in-depth understanding of their business processes, collect their current pain points, identify inefficiencies, research, and recommend possible technological solutions to improve their operations.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Business Process Improvement: Analyze as-is systems, business processes, and operational procedures to identify areas for improvement.
  2. Liaison and Relationship Building: Develop strong relationships with NYC DOT business teams, serving as a liaison between business units and IT.
  3. Requirements Gathering and Documentation: Gather, analyze, and document business requirements to ensure accurate software development.
  4. Technical Communication: Effectively communicate software requirements to technical staff, ensuring seamless project execution.
  5. Training and Support: Provide training sessions, create training materials, and establish feedback loops to support technology adaptation.
  6. Quality Assurance: Perform functional testing, requirements testing, and collaborate with quality assurance specialists to ensure high-quality software delivery.
  7. Defect Reporting and Prioritization: Report and prioritize defects found during quality assurance and user acceptance testing cycles.
  8. Data Analysis: Perform data analysis by querying relational databases using SQL and Microsoft Excel.
  9. Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot reported software issues and perform incident management.
Requirements
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in computer science, engineering, human computer interaction, interactive media, digital and graphics design, data visualization, communication, or a related field, and four years of satisfactory full-time experience related to the area(s) required by the particular position and a specialization in a relevant technology, process, methodology, and/or domain; or
  • An associate degree from an accredited college in computer science, engineering, human computer interaction, interactive media, digital and graphics design, data visualization, communication, or a related field, and six years of satisfactory full-time experience related to the area(s) required by the particular position and a specialization in a relevant technology, process, methodology, and/or domain; or
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, and eight years of satisfactory full-time experience related to the area(s) required by the particular position and a specialization in a relevant technology, process, methodology, and/or domain; or
  • Education and/or experience which is equivalent to the above.
Preferred Skills
  • 3+ years of experience in business communications, analysis, or project coordination
  • 2+ years of experience in gathering and documenting business requirements
  • 1+ years of data analysis experience by querying relational databases using SQL
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio
  • Experience with Microsoft Teams collaboration platform features, Microsoft SharePoint, Power Apps, Service Now, Salesforce, and Microsoft Access
  • Familiarity with JIRA and Azure DevOps platforms
  • Knowledge of UiPath and/or Robotic Process Automation
