Position Overview:
The SMART Initiative, a pioneering project funded by Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC), aims to enhance the integration of Internationally Educated Health Professionals (IEHPs) into the Canadian healthcare system. This initiative is designed to dismantle barriers to foreign credential recognition, provide essential Canadian work experience, and support the professional journey of IEHPs across various provinces and territories. The Alberta International Medical Graduate Association (AIMGA) collaborates on this initiative, leveraging established programs to facilitate the transition of International Medical Graduates (IMGs) into the workforce.
Role Summary:
The Senior Practice Consultant - Nursing will directly report to the Director of Innovation and Business Intelligence, overseeing the Nursing and FCRP program deliverables. This role involves the development and facilitation of educational programs aimed at enhancing clinical proficiency among a cohort of internationally educated nurses participating in the SMART Initiative. Utilizing principles of adult learning, the consultant will design and implement educational activities that cover orientation, mandatory training, clinical competencies, and relevant policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess educational needs based on legislative requirements, ongoing competencies, quality improvement initiatives, and organizational objectives.
- Lead evidence-based practice initiatives to promote professional growth and enhance patient care outcomes.
- Collaborate with leadership to identify individual and group educational needs, crafting tailored learning plans.
- Facilitate the integration of internationally educated nurses into local healthcare environments, promoting cultural acclimatization.
- Act as a change agent and resource for the nursing cohort, supporting professional development and clinical competence across various patient care settings.
- Exemplify and advocate for excellence in professional practice, fostering effective teamwork and collaborative approaches.
Qualifications:
Applicants must possess a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing from an accredited institution, alongside a Master of Nursing. Active registration with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA) or the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (CRPNA) is mandatory. Certification in Basic Life Support (CPR) from the Heart and Stroke Foundation (HSF) is also required.
Additional Qualifications:
Preferred candidates will have over five years of relevant clinical experience, with demonstrated teaching and facilitation skills in both small and large group settings. Strong coaching and mentoring abilities, coupled with change management expertise, are essential. Candidates should exhibit self-motivation, effective time management, and leadership capabilities, alongside excellent interpersonal communication skills.
Preferred Experience:
Experience working with IEHPs and addressing their integration challenges is highly desirable. Familiarity with collaborative practice, quality improvement, and educational program development will be considered an asset.
