Job Summary:
The City of Thunder Bay is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Aquatics Instructor to join our team. As an Aquatics Instructor, you will be responsible for providing safe and enjoyable instruction to program participants under the general supervision of the Program Supervisor and the technical direction and guidance of the Senior Instructor.
Key Responsibilities:
- Instruct program participants using core program and lesson plans for all classes.
- Return equipment to its proper location and maintain a clean pool site.
- Supervise classes in a safe manner.
- Participate in training and staff meetings as required.
- Complete report forms relating to timesheets, accidents, unusual events, thefts, complaints, and instructional programs.
- Repair equipment or take appropriate action; advise supervisor of any equipment maintenance or replacement needs.
- Ensure familiarity with emergency procedures of the facility.
- Pre-test students, prepare test sheets, and prepare for LSS Examiner, where applicable.
- Perform such other related duties as may be assigned.
Requirements:
- Current certifications: CRCS/LSS Instructor, RLSSC Aquatic Emergency care or Standard First Aid and CPR Level C.
- Must be customer service-oriented and able to get along with other members of the staff team.
- Must demonstrate initiative and show a positive attitude.
Preferred Qualifications:
- National Lifeguard Service.
Conditions of Employment:
- Maintain all awards current from date of application until end of employment period.
- Attend and complete within three months of employment, customer service training and WHMIS training.
- Undergo a successful Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC).
- Will be required to work irregular hours and weekends.
