The Government of the Northwest Territories is seeking a skilled Traditional Counselor and Liaison Officer to join our team. As a key member of our Corrections Division, you will play a vital role in providing offender services and promoting cultural awareness and understanding.
Key Responsibilities- Assist clients in developing an understanding of traditionally based spirituality and exposing them to traditional ceremonies and belief systems.
- Provide offender services in accordance with departmental guidelines and operational standards.
- Ensure the ongoing provision and enforcement of policy and services within the Corrections Mission, Vision, and Value statement.
- Develop and maintain thorough knowledge of traditional based programming, communities, and resources in the Northwest Territories.
- Apply theoretical understanding of human behavior and offender issues to inform practice.
- Utilize excellent interpersonal skills, including problem-solving, decision-making, and facilitation, to effectively communicate with clients and stakeholders.
- Post-Secondary Certificate in Social Sciences related field.
- One (1) year of progressively more responsible experience in a counseling field.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Class 4 Driver's License.
- Strong awareness of cultural diversity, specifically northern Aboriginal traditions and values.
