Key Responsibilities:

The Product Design Engineer will be responsible for defining the purpose, features, aesthetics, and components of Ground Support products. The designs will contribute to standardized designs and templates, facilitating the design team's efficiency in producing production drawings.

Core Responsibilities Include:
  • Investigating industry trends through value engineering initiatives.
  • Developing a portfolio of standard products and options for the Ground Support sector.
  • Identifying standard options for each product line and maintaining a comprehensive database of options and variants.
  • Demonstrating problem-solving skills in diverse situations with limited information and interpreting various forms of instructions (written, verbal, sketches, or basic drawings).
  • Aligning drawing structures and naming conventions with manufacturing BOMs.
  • Creating and managing template drawings for all relevant parts to support efficient production drawing creation for orders.
  • Assisting in the development of design standards, tools, and procedures with revision control.
  • Overseeing the Engineering Change process (ECR/ECN).
  • Documenting engineering documents, records, and test reports.
  • Engaging with vendors to address design, functionality, and manufacturability issues.
  • Collaborating with purchasing and quality teams to ensure all received components meet design specifications.
  • Managing time effectively to achieve goals related to product design, standards, sales, and production support.
  • Overseeing the management of vault drawing libraries, configuration, and revision control while applying industry best practices, including uploading all drawings and/or models to the MRP system.
  • Ensuring the accuracy of production drawings aligns with the MRP part numbering series.
  • Training new employees on Wilcox products and manufacturing processes to foster continuous improvement in design.
  • Cross-training and providing backup support to the Project Manager.

  • Familiarity with fabrication processes such as sheet metal, laser cutting, CNC machining, powder coating/wet paint, and welding applications for aluminum and steel.
  • Proficient in tools required (e.g., SolidWorks, DraftSite, project databases, CRMs, and other necessary tools).
  • Expert knowledge and understanding of all product lines.
  • Ability to listen and communicate clearly and effectively.
Education:
  • Technical trade designations/licenses are an asset.
  • Preferred degree in Engineering/Engineering Technology.
  • Completion of CAD training programs/Diploma.
  • SolidWorks certification (CSWP) is preferred.
Working Conditions:
  • Adherence to all required PPE.
  • Standard working hours, day shift.

  • Flexibility to work outside of regular working days and hours may be required.
