About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Geotechnical Engineer to join our team at Burgundy Diamond Mines. As a key member of our operations team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient extraction of diamonds from our open pit mines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement geotechnical designs and operational instructions to support open pit mining operations
  • Conduct slope monitoring systems and geotechnical data collection management to ensure safe operations
  • Assess geotechnical stability of open pit slopes and wedges, and recommend appropriate ground support
  • Review and update Ground Control Standards and Ground Control Management Plan to ensure compliance with industry best practices
  • Provide geotechnical data to mine engineers to support optimal mine planning
  • Complete mine inspections, internal reporting, and issue technical reports as needed
  • Develop Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) and Work Instructions (WI) for geotechnical tasks
  • Conduct hydrology and hydrogeology studies to manage water ingress and inrush risk
Requirements
  • Degree in geotechnical engineering or a relevant discipline
  • Minimum 3-4 years of experience in geotechnical engineering
  • Designation as a Professional Engineer in the Northwest Territories or working toward the ability to obtain this designation
  • NWT WCB Supervisor Level One or Level Two certification or the ability to obtain this
  • Advanced experience with industry software such as RocScience suite, GeoStudio, and Maptek suite
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently or in a team setting
