The Role
The Systems Engineer will be part of our engineering team that develops marine navigation and bridge systems for our government and naval markets. This critical role will involve the development of overall system requirements' design and definition for our complex products. The Systems Engineer will execute various system engineering functions throughout the life cycle of the project, working closely with our team to ensure the timely delivery of engineering-related projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop system designs, define systems architecture, define interfaces and specification, perform trade-studies and document the design by writing SSDD, ICDs, SRS
- Perform requirement analysis, traceability and maintenance of requirements
- Coordinate design of subsystems and integration of total system
- Identify, analyze and resolve program support deficiencies
- Develop and recommend corrective actions
- Design to government standards, including Military and IMO standards, ensuring ongoing compliance and adherence to requirements
- Ensure availability, reliability and other logistics support considerations are part of the system design process
- Review obsolescence issues and recommend design changes
- Develop design concepts and generate technical proposal in response to Request for Quotation (RFQ)
- May lead during customer design reviews and acceptance events
- May lead during system integration tests, trials, and acceptance tests at customer facilities
- Write acceptance test procedures
- Manage scope of work, schedules work, estimates effort and costs, and identifies technical risks; effectively communicate status on a regular basis to management
- Work in both a team environment and independently with minimum supervision
- Mentor other system engineers, may coordinate activities of other personnel
Requirements
- Degree in Engineering or Physics, Engineering or related field or equivalent experience
- 8 years engineering experience, minimum 6 years' experience in Systems Engineering; Experience in marine electronics and integrated bridge systems a significant asset;
- Experience in defense or government domain preferably in naval ship sector a significant asset;
- Experience leading a team of Engineers on projects;
- Proven track record in the timely delivery of engineering-related projects;
- Strong knowledge of marine navigation and tactical sensors or systems;
- Excellent knowledge of Systems Engineering principles, standards and best practices;
- Working experience in network design and architecture;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
- Familiarity with requirements and verification management tools such as DOORS;
- Knowledge of safety engineering and human factors engineering is an asset;
- Eligible to obtain and maintain a location relevant security clearance;
- Willingness and ability to travel
