Operating Engineer – Shift Leader Job Description

Job Summary:

The Toronto District School Board is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Operating Engineer to fill the role of Shift Leader. As a key member of our operations team, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing leadership and direction to our caretaking staff, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our facilities, and maintaining a high level of customer service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and direction to the caretaking staff, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our facilities.
  • Ensure the maintenance and repair of building systems, including heating, ventilation, and air conditioning.
  • Perform routine inspections of facilities to identify and address any potential hazards or maintenance issues.
  • Develop and implement procedures to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless operations and effective communication.
  • Provide excellent customer service to our students, staff, and visitors.

Requirements:

  • Valid Operating Engineer's Licence (minimum 4th Class) in accordance with the Technical Standards and Safety Authority.
  • Grade 10 or approved equivalent education.
  • Proven experience in a similar role, with a strong background in maintenance and repair.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Working Conditions:

The successful candidate will be required to work a variety of shifts, including evenings and weekends, and may be required to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities.
