POSITION SUMMARY:

Startec Compression & Process is seeking a Journeyman Instrumentation Technician to join our team. The primary responsibility of the Instrumentation Technician involves the installation and calibration of various instruments, along with the bending and installation of tubing and necessary supports. Reporting directly to the Instrumentation Supervisor, this role is vital for maintaining the safe and efficient operation of equipment, performing routine inspections, executing quality checks, and addressing any equipment malfunctions or breakdowns. Furthermore, the technician may engage in interpreting technical drawings, preparing detailed reports, and collaborating with production staff to enhance system performance and reliability.

WORK SCHEDULE: The position operates on a shift schedule of 4:30-2:20 (4 days/week, 10 hours/day). Overtime will be required as necessary.

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPI):

INSTRUMENTATION INSTALLATION & ASSEMBLY (Weighting 70%)
  • Demonstrated proficiency in tube bending.
  • Skilled in the installation and calibration of instruments.
  • Experience with Factory Acceptance Testing and commissioning of flow meters, pressure gauges, etc.
  • Ability to layout skids using P&IDs, GA's, and customer specifications.
  • Competence in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, schematics, and technical specifications.
Compliance
  • Strict adherence to safety protocols, lockout/tagout procedures, and relevant safety regulations.
  • Compliance with codes, standards, and regulations governing instrumentation and electrical work.
PROCESS MANAGEMENT (Weighting 20%)
  • Preparation of documentation in accordance with company standards, ensuring timely completion.
  • Participation in Toolbox meetings, conducting risk assessments, and implementing necessary mitigation measures.
  • Sharing knowledge and mentoring junior technicians.
  • Assisting in training programs and mentorship initiatives.
COLLABORATION (Weighting 10%)
  • Engaging with multidisciplinary teams for effective communication and task execution.
  • Professional interaction with internal customers, vendors, and inspectors.
  • Promoting a continuous improvement environment.
  • Collaborating closely with other trades for optimal unit design.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Journeyman certification in Instrumentation or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in instrumentation installation, testing, and calibration within a fabrication setting. Experience with compression and processing equipment packages is advantageous.
  • Experience in commissioning and start-up processes is a plus.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills in instrumentation and electrical systems.
  • Highly organized with excellent communication skills, thriving in a team-oriented environment.
