Position Overview

The Specialist Software Development role involves contributing to comprehensive solutions by examining functional specifications to determine the most effective technical design and coding of applications. The Specialist is accountable for assigned deliverables, manages their workload, and prioritizes essential tasks to meet service commitments, utilizing their expertise and skill set to achieve delivery objectives. Depending on the assignment, this role may function within a Project, Enhancement, or Support framework.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Collaboration
    1. Engage with managers, product management, system designers, and team members to fulfill the software requirements established by the team.
  2. Software Design
    1. Collaborate with system designers, product management, and architecture to comprehend project requirements.
    2. Identify the technical implications of functional designs on existing applications through detailed analysis.
    3. Define detailed software requirements based on functional and non-functional system needs.
    4. Create and maintain technical documentation for software.
    5. Contribute to the development, compliance, and enhancement of coding standards within the team.
    6. Analyze sub-system component challenges and/or business requirements to devise effective, high-availability, mission-critical solutions.
    7. Work alongside project managers to outline software design and build deliverables, including associated estimates and technical risks.
  3. Delivery
    1. Develop or modify software applications to meet design specifications.
    2. Conduct code reviews with fellow team members.
    3. Define, implement, and sustain software and configuration.
    4. Collaborate with system designers to adjust system configurations of embedded systems hosting software applications.
    5. Demonstrate expertise in embedded software development with skills in:
      1. C++ programming (including GCC, makefile, or cmake)
      2. Python programming
      3. Bash scripting
      4. Experience with Linux command line (preferably on Linux RedHat OS)
      5. REST API server implementation and queries
      6. Basic understanding of database configuration and maintenance
    6. Familiarity with front-end interface development:
      1. Angular
      2. JavaScript/Web development
    7. Proficiency in software development concepts and tools:
      1. Repository management tools (e.g., GIT, SVN)
      2. CI/CD & Pipeline solutions (Azure DevOps, Jenkins)
    8. Basic understanding of computer networking concepts:
      1. DNS, SNMP, SSH, SSL
    9. Knowledge of cloud-based infrastructure solutions (Google, Azure, AWS):
      1. Cloud orchestration
      2. Cloud data integration
      3. Hybrid integration
      4. Integration Platform as a Service
    10. Adhere to change and release management processes.
    11. Support Q&A from engineers from a technical subsystem product owner perspective.
    12. Participate in the implementation of the complete product in production.
    13. Provide software delivery mechanisms and implementation plans for internal stakeholders.
    14. Assist in debugging and issue investigation in production, providing root cause analysis reports.
    15. Prepare necessary documentation, training, and presentation materials to operationalize developed solutions.
  4. Quality Assurance
    1. Ensure quality KPIs are identified, measured, and produced in alignment with team development standards.
    2. Guarantee consistent testing (unit & assembly) across all projects.
    3. Conduct unit testing of software and configuration, including writing and executing scripts for automated testing.
    4. Establish pilot test plans, execute pilot testing, and compile test reports for newly defined solutions.
Qualifications
  1. Education/Certification
    1. Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  2. Skills/Knowledge
    1. Detail-oriented analytical skills.
    2. Strong algorithmic thinking and design capabilities.
    3. Expertise in debugging and problem-solving.
  3. Experience
    1. Minimum of 7-10 years of overall work experience.
    2. 5 years of experience as a developer.
    3. 2 years of experience writing automated unit testing scripts.
  4. Assets
    1. Experience working within Agile and DevOps development organizations.
    2. Knowledge of cloud-based infrastructure solutions (Google, Azure, AWS).
    3. Familiarity with application development for cloud-based solutions.
    4. Management of the delivery lifecycle for complex software solutions.
    5. Scrum Master certification.
Work Environment

In-office presence is required three days a week.
