Overview

The Equipment Maintenance Technician at Holcim is responsible for a variety of tasks at the quarry site, focusing primarily on maintenance activities for both fixed and mobile machinery utilized in aggregate production. This role also includes general housekeeping duties to ensure a safe and efficient work environment.

The position offers competitive wages along with benefits, a pension plan, and opportunities for pay increases after a specified period. The work schedule involves split shifts from 2:00 PM to 12:00 AM, with potential for overtime and weekend work as needed.

Responsibilities

Safety:

  • Foster a culture of safety by engaging with colleagues, subcontractors, and suppliers, while implementing local and regional safety initiatives aimed at achieving zero incidents.
  • Uphold safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all regulatory and company standards.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and functional work environment at the plant and surrounding areas.
  • Understand and apply safety protocols related to near misses, incidents, and risk assessments.

Equipment Management:

  • Execute cleanup tasks using skid steers and hand tools, ensuring safety around operational equipment while wearing appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Conduct pre-operational checks and operate assigned mobile machinery as instructed.

Environmental Stewardship:

  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and guidelines.
  • Be vigilant regarding environmentally sensitive areas and proactively address any issues that arise in the work zone.
  • Adapt to diverse working conditions, including exposure to dust, heat, cold, and noise.

Maintenance Duties:

  • Collaborate effectively with team members, supervisors, and management.
  • Conduct daily inspections as part of the preventative maintenance program.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and repairing malfunctioning equipment.
  • Support plant repair activities as required.
  • Perform tasks at heights when necessary.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Carry out other assigned duties to promote the efficient operation of the plant.

Dependability:

  • Follow directives, work collaboratively within a team, and respond to supervisory guidance.

Safety Commitment:

  • Adhere to all applicable safety regulations and protocols.
  • Utilize personal protective equipment as required.
  • Comply with Holcim's safety policies and procedures.
  • Report all incidents and safety hazards to management.
  • Follow lockout/tagout procedures and be aware of emergency response plans.

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in industrial or mining plant operations.
  • Heavy equipment operation experience is advantageous.
  • Basic welding and fitting skills are preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of maintenance experience.

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Training in specific mobile equipment operation.
  • Mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Computer literacy is beneficial.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.

Working Conditions:

  • Work in outdoor environments with varying temperatures and weather conditions.
  • Indoor work in conditions that may include heat, noise, and dust.
  • Rotating shifts, overtime, and weekend work may be required.
  • Mobility throughout the plant, including the use of stairs and ladders.
  • Regular physical activity, including bending, kneeling, reaching, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces.
