Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Dietary Assistant to join our team at Golden Links Lodge Personal Care Home. As a Dietary Assistant, you will play a vital role in ensuring the health and well-being of our residents by providing exceptional food service and nutrition support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and serve meals to residents, staff, and visitors in a courteous and friendly manner.
  • Portion out food and beverages according to menu and resident preferences.
  • Assist cooks as required and participate in food preparation and execution of special event meals and catering functions.
  • Operate dispensing machines, put away and bring out supplies as required.
  • Count, weigh, and/or measure ingredients for assigned food preparation.
  • Make beverages and food items such as tea, coffee, and toast, and assemble items such as sandwiches and salads.
  • Wash, peel, and store vegetables and fruit.
  • Assist in maintaining cost control through portion control, careful storage, and usage of leftovers.
  • Clean, wash, and set tables neatly, and refill supplies as required.
  • Strip, rack, and wash items such as dishes, bins, and utensils, and operate dishwashing machines.
  • Receive deliveries, checking invoice against items received, and advise supervisor of any damaged, short, or incorrect items.
  • Responsible for storing all foods, including deliveries, appropriately as soon as possible.
  • Work to minimize spoilage and waste.
  • Unpack supplies when delivered, organize storeroom/refrigerators using the "first in – first out" stock rotation procedure.
Requirements
  • Successful completion of Grade 10 education is required.
  • Food Handlers training certificate Level 1 or equivalent required.
  • Food service experience is preferred.
  • Ability to speak, read, write, and comprehend fluent English is required.
  • Able to carry out duties in a professional manner, working under minimum or no supervision, and in compliance with confidentiality of GLL and its residents.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Good physical and mental health to meet the demands of the position (i.e., prolonged standing, pushing, pulling, lifting, and bending, etc.).
  • Able to operate related equipment and maintain a clean work area.
  • Clean, neat appearance, in accordance with GLL dress code.
  • Able to accept constructive criticism and to adapt in stressful situations.
  • Interested in the elderly, and in working to uphold the concepts of teamwork in caring for the needs of the residents.
  • Able to work to improve food service for facility residents and staff.
  • All hires require a Criminal Record and Adult Abuse Registry check.
  • Understands and respects residents' rights and privacy.
  • Presents a courteous, cooperative, and professional manner to both residents and staff while performing duties.
  • Promotes a homelike atmosphere within Golden Links Lodge.
Working Conditions
  • Works in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • May be required to work varying shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • May be required to lift, push, pull, and bend, and to stand for prolonged periods.
